Collaborative Fisheries Research Project with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Cal Poly has been developing fisheries data on local Marine Protected Areas and reference areas with volunteer anglers and Cal Poly staff. Fishing trips are free and no catch may be retained. Trips leave from both Patriot Sportfishing in Port San Luis and Virg's Landing in Morro Bay. Point Buchon and Piedras Blancas are the two destinations. Trips leave at 6am from the landings and go until 3pm (Buchon) or 4pm (Piedras). All gear is provided or you can bring your own rod and reel, terminal tackle is standardized and provided by Cal Poly. Fish are caught, identified, measured, tagged and released. Bring your own lunch and dress warmly. Dates in July, August and September are now available. Contact Grant Waltz at:
